Meal Plan Change Policies

 General Policies:

  • These policies are effective as of May 2012.
  • Ramblin' 400 and Ramblin' 200 meal plans can neither be canceled nor changed.
  • All meal plans and meal plan promotional bonuses expire on the last day of the semester.
  • Students will have an opportunity to select an alternative meal plan free of any service charge prior to the first meal service day each semester. 
  • Meal Plan Changes are elected online at mealplan.gatech.edu.

AFTER THE FIRST MEAL SERVICE DATE, A MEAL PLAN CHANGE PERIOD EXTENDS OVER THE SECOND AND THIRD WEEKS OF THE SEMESTER.    A meal plan change fee applies during this period. The meal plan change period dates and service fee amount will be posted each semester on the meal plan website mealplan.gatech.edu. Plan changes are initiated on the same site.  Exception: See "Summer Semester (Full & Short Session) Participants" below.

The following rules apply to all meal plan changes:

  • The meal plan week runs from Friday through Thursday. All meal plan changes made after the first meal plan service date become effective the following Friday at 6:00 A.M.
  • Proration of Refunds and New Plan Charges: Meal plans come with a pre-designated amount of BuzzCard account funds. For purposes of calculating the cost differential between the original and new meal plans, meal plan costs are divided between the base meal plan cost and BuzzCard account funds. The meal plan cost differential is calculated on a prorated basis as follows:
    • For base meal plan costs, the BuzzCard Center will process a prorated credit for the original meal plan cost and assess a prorated charge for the new meal plan selection.
    • The credit, new charge, and change fee (if applicable) are sent to the student’s Bursar account.
    • BuzzCard account funds are not prorated. Original plan funds are credited in whole, and the new plan’s funds charged in whole. Both the credit and new charge are sent to the student’s Bursar account. Should such a proration create an insufficient funds balance in the student’s BuzzCard account, an amount equal to the insufficient funds amount will also be posted to the student’s Bursar account.

Freshman Experience Students:

  • Freshman Experience Participants may NOT cancel their meal plans.
  • Freshman Experience participants may only choose among Freshman Experience meal plans as listed on the mealplan.gatech.edu website.

Freshman Experience Students that Pledge Greek:

Freshman Experience participants who choose to pledge a Fraternity/Sorority are required to maintain a Freshman Experience Meal Plan during the term of their Freshman Experience Contract. Freshman Experience participants who pledge a fraternity or sorority will have the opportunity to change to the Greek Access 5 meal plan within the communicated meal plan change period. The Greek Access 5 meal plan provides students access to any five meals per week at Brittain, Woodruff or North Avenue Dining Halls throughout the academic semester.  Meal plan change policies apply as outlined above. If a student de-pledges, they will be reassigned their original meal plan selection.

Summer Semester (Full & Short Session) Participants:
